“Bros” Icing “Bros”

The “icing” meme first came on like the common cold before it swept the Internet like a plague. What started as a “laugh at those silly “bros” drinking that terrible mixed-drink concoction” somehow quickly made the leap to let’s make OUR friends drop to one knee and down a Smirnoff ice wherever they are. I’m not sure how it crossed the line so quickly (alcohol) or how everyone went from being sideline-spectators to participants so fast (irony), but soon enough reports and twitpics came streaming in about friends, foes, and celebrities being iced.
This photo of indie-stars The National may have been one of the most famous icing victims (besides the ill-conceived, failed attempt to ice Buzz Aldrin at the Webby Awards). Why this trend caught on and not Pimps n’ Ho’s parties, popped collars, or any other popular bro past-time I’ll never know. The death knell of the meme (or your involvement in it) should have been when the bros got riled up enough to actually complain about hipsters involvement. So let’s hope this 4th of July while you celebrated your Independence, you did so safely, and without being iced so that we can let this one drop to it’s knees and die a quiet death.
